How to repair the missing HTML file icons in Windows
Today, I met a strange problem with my .html and .htm file icons. These two files in Windows normally have a typical internet explorer icon. But when I have tried refreshing the icon cache using Tuneup Utilities, the icons simply have changed into a DOS application icon.

The solution for this problem is very simple and this will work for Internet Explorer versions 4.0 to till now. We have to edit the Windows registry to solve this problem.
Solution
- Press Win+R in your keyboard or select Start – > Run.
- Type regedit in the Run dialog box and hit Enter button.
- In the Registry Editor, go to the following registry entry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon in the left side panel.
- In the right side panel, double click on the name (Default) and enter the Value data as shdoclc.dll,0
- Restart your computer and see the result.
Easy fix tool
Download the and just double click and press Yes and restart your computer to see the results.

@Chethan,
I think you got a bit different problem than mine.
Your Chrome browser may be deleted from your system and that’s the reason for seeing its shortcut icon as a typical DOS file type.
