How to

• Install and activate the Subscribe To Comments plugin in your WordPress blog.
• Go to Settings -> Subscribe To Comments in your WordPress Dashboard.
• Set the value for “From” name for notifications column. Example: “BlogrPro.Com”
• Set the value for “From” e-mail addresss for notifications column. Example: noreply@blogrpro.com
• Set the value of Path to header as [theme_path]/header.php
• Set the value of Path to sidebar as [theme_path]/sidebar.php
• Set the value of Path to footer as [theme_path]/footer.php
• Update the options.

Result

Following this article will integrate your WordPress blog theme with the Comment Subscription Manager in your WordPress blog. The integrated Comment Subscription Manager will look like the following screenshot.

Last week, one of blogger friend pinged me and told that he is facing some problems with his WordPress self hosted blog. We have tried to recover his blog and came to know that his blog is under the attack of some hackers. Meanwhile, the problem actually started in his WordPress MySQL database. Yes! He lost the data and hence he don’t have any of his blog posts.

I have advised him to move to a good hosting provider for security reasons and he did that. But what about those deleted posts/articles? Of course, we have the solution.

Loss

• The loss of those articles will lead his blog to a major traffic loss.
• The blog will face problems since those old post’s url will lead to a 404 error which is hated by all search engines.

Solution

For every problem, there is a solution and here it is.

It’s simple. We can get the support of search engines for this problem. Yes. You all know search engines like Google will have an index base of your web pages and hence your blog posts will be in the index. For an example, I will give you a solution using Google.

1. In Google, type the query site:yourwebsite.com
2. Now you will see the entire list of web pages that are indexed in Google. Try to find what you have lost from the results page.
3. Click on the Cached link to get the cache page of those web pages.
4. In the cached page, click Text-only version to get the text only web page.
5. Then copy it and rewrite them as articles.

Note

• This trick will be good as enough if your loss of articles is moderate. If it is huge, this trick will take a lot of time to finish.
• Search engines will normally remove those urls which lead to 404 error from it’s cache thereby you will lose those articles permanently. Try to apply this method as soon as possible.
• The best solution is try to create a backup of your data always.

Today, I met a strange problem with my .html and .htm file icons. These two files in Windows normally have a typical internet explorer icon. But when I have tried refreshing the icon cache using Tuneup Utilities, the icons simply have changed into a DOS application icon.

The solution for this problem is very simple and this will work for Internet Explorer versions 4.0 to till now. We have to edit the Windows registry to solve this problem.

Solution

1. Press Win+R in your keyboard or select Start – > Run.
2. Type regedit in the Run dialog box and hit Enter button.
3. In the Registry Editor, go to the following registry entry  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon in the left side panel.
4. In the right side panel, double click on the name (Default) and enter the Value data as shdoclc.dll,0
5. Restart your computer and see the result.

Today, I was irritated to see that I was unable to login into my wordpress blog dashboard. Even the url blogrpro.com/wp-admin/ didn’t load at all. All I saw was a blank page. After then I have started loading blogrpro.com/wp-login.php. It actually loads the login page. But still I am not able to login into my dashboard because it shows an empty page once again.

So what happened to this blog at all! This happened already to us and we have successfully solved those things. What may be the reasons for this problem? They are:

• WordPress Update may be the first problem. I have updated my blog software to the latest one and after then only I got so many problems.
• Plugins may be too. Some wordpress plugins are injecting scripts / codes into the wordpress dashboard actually. Such code may contain any error specific code.
• Themes will be one thing. Sometimes wordpress themes will lead you to see such problems.
• Web hosting service may be. Yes definitely.

So how I have solved this problem? Here it is.

• Renamed my wordpress themes folder from wp-content/themes to wp-content/themes_bak.
• Then just went to blogrpro.com/wp-admin/ to login into my wordpress account. Successfully logged in.
• Also checked whether the blogrpro.com/wp-admin/ page is loading in an another browser. But nothing happens as usual.
• Since I have changed the themes folder name, my blog’s design was entirely collapsed. So once again renamed the folder back to themes from themes_bak. Now, my blog was in perfect design once again.
• Then disabled the plugins one by one and checked whether the blogrpro.com/wp-admin/ page is loading in an another browser.
• After then I have solved this problem. The problem is with some of my plugins which actually uses more memory. Plugins which use so many database queries in form of updation/addition of data in your database requires more memory and I have avoided using them at this time.

Moral of this post is avoid using too many plugins in your wordpress blog.

Note: Don’t ever go to your Themes / Widgets section in your wordpress blog dashboard after renaming your themes folder.

3. See videos Some popular websites feature videos to show how exactly a mobile phone is functioning. I am always using this method to see how good is a mobile phone.
4. See features Will you buy a mobile phone with a black and white display for more than 300 dollars? Never! So always try to figure out what special features a mobile phone have in it.
5. See it’s drawbacks Once I have felt bad about my mobile phone as it lacks to have the A2DP feature within it. Hence always try to see what a mobile lacks in it’s feature list.

In my previous post, I wrote about 12 Steps to your Blog’s Failure. Now, Let’s start slowing down our website or blog’s loading speed.

It is very simple and there is no hard steps to do it.  It will be simple to lose your website / blog’s traffic. Here are those 8 easy steps.

1. More Javascript Include as much javascript code as you can in your web page. This will surely increase your webpage’s total size. And hence the loading time will be much more.
2. More CSS Once you have included more CSS codes/files in your web page, it is easy to slow down your website’s loading speed.
3. Embed Multimedia Multimedia files include Flash content, Audio Files, Video Files, etc. When including or embedding such files in your web page, it will increase the burden by means of size and more server requests.
4. Include Images Including images is not a big issue. But including as much images or flooding your webpage full of images will do the rest by slowing down the speed.
5. More Database Queries In dynamic web pages which uses languages like PHP, PERL, etc., start querying your database everytime without having much reasons. This will burden your database server with full of requests and will surely benefit your competitor.
6. Use Erroneous Scripts/Code This is one easy method. When the server faces any such erroneous script/ code, it will be in much confusion to solve it and will just flood your web server with error log files (more burden for server).
7. No Compression Don’t use any compression techniques in your webpages. This will not only increase your web page size. But will also increase your web server’s burden on responding to more requests from your web page.
8. No Cache Don’t ever cache any of your website’s content. Contents like CSS, JS, etc. can be avoided to cache in client’s computer. Hence, everytime when he/she requests for the entire webpage content, the web browser will fetch everything from the starting point to ending point.

One final word is just give more burden to your web server with full of requests and see the failure result.

Now it’s spreading like a mobile phone mania and usage of internet in mobile phones is growing tremendously. So it is good/must to mobilize your blog/website to make sure that your blog/site is accessible from the largest medium(mobile).

So far, this is the best wordpress plugin for mobilizing your wordpress blog. MobilePress allows you to customize your blog with theme support for normal mobile phones as well as for Windows smartphones and iPhones.

MobilePress has an option for rotating your blog theme exclusively for

1. Windows Smartphone
2. Opera Mini
3. iPhone

If you are having a blog only for mobile phone views, then you can very well make it to be viewable only as a mobile blog.

MobilePress doesn’t support a separate subdomain for your blog’s mobile version. Instead it will automatically change your blog into a mobile version as per the mobile phone.

• Post Layout

This plugin will be an essential one after you find out a serious problem with the MobilePress plugin. MobilePress includes the ad code provided by plugins like Easy Adsenser, AdSense Manager, All in One Adsense and YPN, etc in your blog posts/pages.

Hence if you are having a 468 x 60 ad in your normal wordpress blog post/page and after you mobilize it using MobilePress plugin, the 468 x 60 ad will still be visible when it is viewed in a mobile phone. This is not a mobile friendly option.

My recommendation is to use Post Layout plugin to avoid such conflicts. This wonderful plugin supports you to add specific code for both the desktop browsers and for mobile devices. This will be useful if you want to insert Mobile Google AdSense ads in your post/page.

• MobilePress vs MoFuse vs Google Reader

There are some other solutions for mobilizing your blog. Services like MoFuse and Google Reader will be useful one but upto a certain limit.

- MoFuse will mobilize your blog by using its RSS feed only. For example, if your blog has around 1000 posts and your RSS feed provides the latest 10 posts, then MoFuse will only show those latest 10 posts from the RSS feeds. Hence it is not as good since it is actually mobilizing your blog feeds only.

- Google Reader will be good if you are using it since you have posted your first blog article. This is because Google reader will continuously aggregate/store your blog feeds so that it can mobilize as much as 1000 posts. But remember it will be only useful if you are using it since you have posted the first post in your blog.

- But MobilePress plugin will make your entire blog as a mobile friendly one so that the user can search, browse through all of your blog posts.

• Defrag your Disk Drives

Many of the PC users don’t even know about this wonderful feature in every operating system. When you are often copying, moving and deleting files in your system, it is highly recommended to defrag your system in ever week. When such actions are going on, your hard disk content will not be organized well and will be scattered in different positions. Each operating system will try to find hard about the information of a file when it is accessing that file. So by defragging it, your disk drive’s free space will be organized well thereby those scattered / fragmented data will be organized well which will highly tweak your system performance.

• Error check you Disk Drives

Have you ever encountered a blue screen when booting your Windows Operating System which looks like below?

99% 0f the users will press a key to avoid this screen. But the real thing is you are losing your files behind this avoidness. Windows Scandisk will let these files to be recovered so that your disk drive can be free from bad clusters.

Also use “chkdsk /f” in your command prompt to check your partitions often. There are many reasosns that will lead to file I/O error in your operating system like Windows XP from power failure to unneccessary software usage.

• Avoid using too many visual effects

Too many visual effects will consume more memory and will also execute various background processes. So always use minimal effects.

Go to Control Panel -> Display and then in Appearance tab press Effects button and uncheck the visual effects that you don’t need. A background image in desktop too will consume more memory.

Go to Control Panel ->System and then in Advanced tab under Performance column, press Settings and uncheck all the options except the last 3 options (Can uncheck all if you are ready to switch from Windows XP interface to Windows(98) Classic interface).
