We all know not everything works out as planned. But have you ever imagined why your plan fails while others is a success. The main reason your plan fails is because you are not planning things properly.

“But I followed all the advices, I did what other successful blogger are doing”.

That is where you failed. You just copied a plan and tired to make it work for your own blog. What you needed to do was make your own unique plan for you blog. You should have studied the already successful plan, taken its blueprint and build a plan considering the points similar to your own blog.

Planning is not a very easy task. You first need to understand it properly before trying to make a plan yourself. There are two types of Planning.

Pre-Planning – Simple Planning

Pre-planning is the starting point. Pre-planning means creating a plan before you start something. Most of you know it a simple planning. Most people already do this stuff while making a blog plan. You plan out what niche you will be blogging, what types of post you will be posting, what will be your posting frequency and many other stuffs. Pre-planning is easier task as everything is almost theoretical.

Post-Planning – Complex Planning

Post-planning is rapidly evolving planning. It is complex and deals with practical side of your work. It evolves with time and every new result. Think that you posted a post which got a tremendous response. You search for the reason why it became successful. And make a plan to create similar posts in future. This is post-planning. But this does not stop here. You wait for the result and modify the plan, may be adding additional promotion methods etc. Your plan undergoes many changes with time.

Both Pre-Planning and Post-Planning are equally necessary for your blog plan to become a success. While Pre-planning is done by almost everyone, not many people are aware of the fact that there is something called a post-planning as well. The reason that your blog plan is not a success lies here. You need to consider post-planning as well. At first it will be difficult to do post-planning but eventually you will be able to do it easily. One thing you always need to remember is that post-planning always evolve, so a plan which worked months ago will not necessarily give the same results. You will need to make changes according to the current situations.

Why Blogging is an addiction?

It’s simple. Everything is for money and fame. When one of my friend launched his blog, I did ask him about his motive for the launch. He told this. “I need to act smart and make money”. So I again asked him, “What do you know about blogging?”. He told this. “Blogging is what I supposed to make others to believe me”.

This clearly shows one thing. Blogging is now like a top most followed bad karma like so. Even though I love to be a self controlled blogger in every aspect, I still need you to know how blogging can addict anyone.

I forget to say this. My friend’s age is just 12 years and 5 months.

I still need to contribute my words here to make you believe that blogging is an addictive practice. Will be covered in upcoming posts.

Last week, one of blogger friend pinged me and told that he is facing some problems with his WordPress self hosted blog. We have tried to recover his blog and came to know that his blog is under the attack of some hackers. Meanwhile, the problem actually started in his WordPress MySQL database. Yes! He lost the data and hence he don’t have any of his blog posts.

I have advised him to move to a good hosting provider for security reasons and he did that. But what about those deleted posts/articles? Of course, we have the solution.

Loss

• The loss of those articles will lead his blog to a major traffic loss.
• The blog will face problems since those old post’s url will lead to a 404 error which is hated by all search engines.

Solution

For every problem, there is a solution and here it is.

It’s simple. We can get the support of search engines for this problem. Yes. You all know search engines like Google will have an index base of your web pages and hence your blog posts will be in the index. For an example, I will give you a solution using Google.

1. In Google, type the query site:yourwebsite.com
2. Now you will see the entire list of web pages that are indexed in Google. Try to find what you have lost from the results page.
3. Click on the Cached link to get the cache page of those web pages.
4. In the cached page, click Text-only version to get the text only web page.
5. Then copy it and rewrite them as articles.

Note

• This trick will be good as enough if your loss of articles is moderate. If it is huge, this trick will take a lot of time to finish.
• Search engines will normally remove those urls which lead to 404 error from it’s cache thereby you will lose those articles permanently. Try to apply this method as soon as possible.
• The best solution is try to create a backup of your data always.

Technorati, world’s number one blog search engine also known for it’s blog ranking. Today, I got an email from Technorati as part of informing their ongoing changes in their portal. Let’s see what are those changes and how will they affect your blog?

1. Technorati will no longer consider Blogroll links in any blogs.
2. Technorati now will rely highly on RSS and Atom feeds.
3. Your links from blogs which offer only partial feeds will no longer be considered when counting your blog’s authority. Means your links will no longer be available in Technorati if they are from partial feed blogs.
4. All these changes will be implemented from October, 2009.

After seeing some bad design practices in many blogs and websites, I am writing this article here. Are you tired of changing so many designs in your website? If yes, you should have a look on this article to make sure that you will never change the design again and again.

Design practices to follow

I have added those best practices to follow in your website design as 10 points. They are:

1. Avoid using high contrast colors in your website.
2. Avoid mixing up of unmatched colors in your website.
3. If you are planning for a transparent logo, try to use PNG image format rather than using GIF image format.
4. If your website logo is going to be placed over a plain background, try to avoid using transparent logo.
5. Avoid using fancy fonts everywhere in your website.
6. Emphasize the important content in your website.
7. Avoid too many CSS style additions for anchor links. Not only for links.
8. Avoid using flash (swf) files for your website logo.
9. Avoid using DHTML tricks in your website since it is not supported by many browsers.
10. Avoid using too big images as your website background.

In our part 4 of Uniqueness in Blogging! How to do with blog content?, we have discussed about the necessity of the blog content and how can we maintain uniqueness based on it. In this part, we are going to have a look on how should we market our blog.

Marketing a blog means not just putting comments and links in other websites, blogs and social media sites. Marketing a blog involves various steps.

I am going to tell how marketing a blog should be in form of a story. The story is exactly what happened to our blog. Let’s see.

When we have started blogging, our first plan to get attention (visitors) is through our friends and friends of friends. It’s like a Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) method. Here comes our business strategy.

We didn’t tell that it is our blog actually. Instead, we have forwarded many of our blog articles as our favorite one to our friends through emails, chat messages, social networks, etc. We didn’t flood their inbox with spam messages. What we have told is that I like this blog article and I think you too will like it. It is like “Refer a friend“. My friends referred the same to their friends.

After then, many of  my friends asked me to send such interesting(!) articles to them frequently so that they can refresh their mind with new content always. Did you notice what all of them want? An article should be interesting and new one. This is the first success in marketing strategy.

And this happened almost after 5 months. Some of my friends referred our blog articles to us (i.e) they said “They like it and I too will“. And they asked who is that article writer. After then only we told them that it is our blog actually.

I am not telling that you should not tell your friends that your blog is yours. I want to catch the points that I have mentioned here.

In our part 3 of Uniqueness in Blogging! How to do with blog design?, we have discussed on how well we can design a blog. In this part, we are going to have a look on how well a blog content should be? So how can we maintain uniqueness in our blog based on its content?

Earlier, we have classified blogs as:

• Personal blogs
• Professional blogs

Personal blogs are usually not following many of the things that we are discussing here. If a blog should be called as “Professional blog”, then the blogger should follow what we are discussing here. Simple! Isn’t it?

Tell me one thing. Do you think a blogger can go high without having any good content? Never. Content should be good, good. That’s it.

Guidelines for Blog Content

• First of all, content should be written in your words only. Yes. Never copy others.
• Have passion in your writing style. Your passion is going to be discussed more than about you.
• Don’t ever call you as an expert (i.e) don’t make any publicity stint.
• Don’t call your content is the best one than others. Because it is the reader’s task to decide who is best.
• If you got some ideas for writing from some of your readers, don’t ever forget to praise them. Because that is what the whole world is expecting. Help should be appreciated.
• Don’t ever deviate from what your blog is meant for.

In our part 2 of Uniqueness in Blogging! How to do?, we have discussed about maintaining comments in blogging. In this part, we are going to talk about the design of a blog. So how a blog should be designed?

Here, I have to mention about the types of blogs based upon the content.

Personal blogging is like writing stories in a website and anyone can write anything in such blogs. And Professional blogging is like writing articles with the best and a competing content.

So why do we concentrate on a blog design? What is the relationship between uniqueness in blogging and design?

Design of a blog is the first one to be noted by any person. Hence, it is always must to consider it first.

Blog Design Guidelines

A professional blog design is what we are concentrating here. Here are some tips to be unique with your design.

• Be unique. Your blog design should always be unique. Don’t just use what others are using.
• Don’t just buy or download a theme/template design. Modify it and then use it in your blog.
• Logo of your blog is very very important when considering the design part. So try to be simple and professional in logo design.
• Design should be compatible. A blog design should be compatible with any medium like various internet browsers,  mobile phone browsers, etc.
• Your blog should be accessible. The biggest problem you will face when designing a blog is its accessibility rate. Disabled persons will simply disable your blog by ignoring, if your blog doesn’t satisfy them. Try to make a design with good color combination to satisfy all.
• Avoid using magazine type themes. As we said earlier, “We are not just posting information. we are making information”.

Well got some good comments for Part 1 of Uniqueness in Blogging! How to do?. Thanks to all of you. Before going to the final steps for achieving uniqueness in blogging, let’s see some tips to know how your blog should be.

There are various type of people who will comment on a blog. Comments may vary from complementary messages to spam messages. The biggest issue to be faced by a blogger is how to maintain or handle those comments in his / her blog. Certain rules are here to follow. They are:

• Check whether a commentator has a blog? If yes, check his blog’s reputation.
• Check the content of the comment.

• Your blog may be added as a malicious website in Google and in some other websites.
• Your blog may end up with spam message flooding.
• Your blog may be hacked too.

Well, some may be confused with the title of this post and it’s content. We are talking about uniqueness in blogging and not about unique content alone. In our previous post “Part 1 of Uniqueness in Blogging! How to do?“, we have described my blogger friend’s problem in his blog. Those problems are in no way to be avoidable since he didn’t follow the above rules.
